Roy Thomson Hall

I share with you one of the most cherished moments of my life, where I was able to perform at Roy Thomson Hall with my late father. It was 2001, he was 71 and suffering from health issues when I was asked by my mother if I could come up with a song that we could do as a duet. My father was a regular entertainer at the "Seniors Jubilee" where hundreds of acts over 55 years old performed throughout the week to a packed house. "The Living Years" immediately popped into my head. It's a song about telling someone you love them before it is too late. We presented it to the production team and we were booked. What a thrill!!

My Father was an amazingly talented , strong smart and witty Englishman who I modelled myself after. His strong work ethic and "never say die" attitude helped mould me into the man I am today. Emigrating from Lancashire England in the late 50's with my mother and my sister to start a new life in Canada, he set up in Oakville where he worked for years as an engineer, designer, draftsman, and an incredible welder.

He spent many years performing in music and theatre and won awards for his talents. His love of singing and performing graced me with the inspiration to do the same, and to this day I would be lost without it.

Those days of rehearsals and the show we did together will be cherished by me for all my days. Please take the time to tell the ones you love how you feel, while you can.

Miss you Dad, I'll love you forever....
